Applying to the GESI program was a sort of leap of faith, considering I had zero experience with non-profit work. However looking back now, I’m so glad I came across this opportunity. Albeit being virtual, it has still managed to be so enriching and engaging. I’ve learnt so much about sustainable project development, and have come to really appreciate the work done by organizations such as FSD and SME. It has been challenging at times, but still very fulfilling looking at the impact projects of this nature have on communities. The best parts of this experience for me will always be all the times when we had a community session. The Mukisa women’s group is so lively, and so easy to engage with - they made working with them such a pleasure. Also, just seeing their dedication and excitement towards the project has really warmed my heart. On the professional side of things, I learnt a lot about the process of developing a project from start to finish, engaging stakeholders, planning and hosting workshops, and of course (just like the women) collaborating with other people to solve problems. I was blessed to have had such an amazing team and supervisor, who made the work all the more enjoyable. This was a one-of-a-kind experience that I’ll forever cherish.
