We at FSD Jinja Uganda have already seen, and experienced, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve just as equally seen the impact on our communities here in Uganda. We know the COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many of us, in every village, city, and country, across the globe. Many countries have closed their borders, including Uganda, and put into place other safety measures, which protect its citizens, but make it difficult for FSD Jinja Uganda to physically host international students.
FSD Jinja Uganda has continued to work remotely putting heads together to think creatively about how we can continue to support our local communities and achieve community-based sustainable development amidst the COVID-19 crisis, and in the upcoming years. Thus, we have adjusted our approach for the Summer 2020 internship and adopted the VIRTUAL Volunteer/Internship program. This approach enables students to support COVID-affected communities virtually, while also gaining experience in the sustainable development realm.
We are disappointed we cannot host students physically right now, but we know it is what is best for the safety and security of everyone involved: students, host families, and local CBOs alike. Follow this link to get a detailed program outline for the virtual internship

Here is our COVID-19 POLICY for in-country internships:
Participants who are signed up, or planning to sign up for placement are encouraged to continue the process. In case the COVID-19 outbreak affects them, they are able to postpone their program to a later date without any penalty fees. There is also an option of participating in the Virtual Internship Program and visit the community project supported later (If desired). If the individual changes their mind about participating in the program, they are eligible for a full refund as per the contract.
Lastly, in this trying season, we have also seen an overwhelming amount of generosity and empathy among people all over the world. While we have been unable to perform our normal tasks, we thought of using our effort to support our local community during this time, including women and youth who are highly vulnerable. We are raising money to be used as Community Seed Funds so FSD can carry out what we do best: sustainable, community-based development.
